I don’t know which makes me more annoyed. The question, or some of the dumb answers. I have been surfing for over 42 years, I’m 56 years old, and I live in Pennsylvania, not some tropic paradise. I pray every day that I will hit the lottery and be able to move to some tropic paradise, but for now, it’s Philadelphia.
Sure enough, when I go south to surf in the winter, I wear bare feet or flip flops, like I do in New Jersey. When I go some places with rugged beaches or long walks to the beach, I wear sneakers.
When I go to work, or mow the lawn, or go to the grocery store, I wear the same footwear as other 56 year old dudes wear. I’m tired of hearing this “what do surfers where?” What you do in the water makes you a surfer, not what you wear. And all of us aren’t kids, so kids may find we dress more like their parents than some stereotypical surfer dudes. I don’t own any mocassins or Ugs (and probably never will).

well in the water we wear rubber wetsuit boots or “booties” and that keeps our feet warm in the water. just walking around we wear what ever kind of shoes we want. i am a skateboarder too so i just wear my skate shoes and thats good for me. other people wear nike shoes and what ever they want. you shouldnt categorize the shoes a person wears jsut because they are surfers

Bare feet . . . That is why my friend’s called me the fair weather Hawaiian in California in the winter. I hated the cold water.
I sail and windsurf in Germany. I have since bought me some neophrene boots.

Most surfers were dive boots, they have more grip than bare feet. It also keeps their feet warm as well. You can get them at any dive shop they are about $25-30 a pair.

Most surfers would stay near the ocean and where its tropical or warm so i guess they keep the sandals and flip flops all year round being uggs are ugly and trendy

I agree with John F, people like you make sure the surfing culture is worse off as fashionista wankers like you keep the commercial leeches happy. Pull ya head in
