What Kind Of Surf Board Should I Get For My First Time?

i bought a surf board it is 6 feet tall and i weight 155 lbs and i cant seem to to be able to stand on the surf board i tend to sink in the water while i ride wave that are not more than 4 feet tall.Am i doing anything wrong? my surfing board [...]
I want to know if I have to look for a specific brand or type of traction pad for my skimboard or I should just grab a surf brand and stick it in my skimboard?

I heard that begginers should start with a lond board, but some local surfers told me other things. My height is 5′6 and weigh about 145 Lbs. What size board should I go with? any info?
